Savayda has been on the herbal path for over fifteen years. Her life changed when she walked into a herbal medicine dispensary in London, England. In that experience she realized that herbal medicines heal and that they have been used to do so by all peoples throughout the ages. She was attracted to the ability of herbs to restore health gently, yet effectively, without causing harm and found resonance with the holistic philosophy of the practice of herbal medicine.
She completed a four-year diploma in herbal medicine from the School of Phytotherapy in England, offered through its sister school, Dominion Herbal College in Vancouver, BC. She paralleled this study of medical sciences, traditional European herbalism and clinical training with a course that focused on the herbal healing traditions native to Canada and India. This combined training has given her a balanced approach to herbal medicine, which combines modern scientific understanding of herbs and health, with centuries old traditional modes of herbal healing.
She spent five years working at a herbal medicine store and clinic in Vancouver. Acknowledging that there were plenty of herbalists in BC and not enough in the east, she returned to her home, Nova Scotia, in 2002.
Since then she has been busy spreading awareness of herbalism and holistic health through her clinic, teaching over 300 workshops and a year-long course in herbal medicine, writing columns in two local magazines, leading herb walks, and media appearances.
Another of her passions is teaching women how to connect with and restore balance to their menstrual cycles. As a Fertility Awareness Educator she assists women and couples to prevent or plan pregnancy naturally. In addition to this, she is dedicated to promoting cancer prevention and coordinates a regular cancer prevention series.
